We are an independently run gallery & craft shop, located in the heart of Plockton, the west coast village affectionately known as the "Jewel of the Highlands".

All visitors to the Studio are given a warm welcome and encouraged to browse our collection of original paintings, limited and open edition prints. As well as great art we offer an exciting array of both locally made and UK sourced crafts and gifts to suit a variety of tastes. So why not visit us and find that perfect gift for someone special.

Feel free to ask us any questions you may have about the village, we are always very happy to help if we can.

 About

The Studio Plockton is so-called because a professional mountain painter once lived and worked here. Anthony Cain used the shop & gallery premises as his studio where he painted his distinctive detailed mountain watercolour paintings for many years. He re-located his studio to Llanberis, North Wales in 1988 and since then the emphasis at The Studio has moved towards representing a wider selection of Scottish, and particularly Highland art.

The original building dates back to 1860, when it was built as a family home by Alexander Matheson. Over the years the building has had many other incarnations, including a dental surgery, a primary school, and the village customs and excise office to name a few. We love hearing memories from people who remember the building from different stages of its life, a few people were born here too.

With peaks on Plockton’s doorstep, and the beauty of Applecross, Skye and the West Highlands within reach, this area is a great place to come for those who love to explore the wilderness of the region. From The Studio’s front door you can see The Crags, look over the bay towards romantic Duncraig Castle and watch the trains curve around the bay on the legendary West Highland train line.
